Alexander Meyer

Dr. Alexander Meyer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Classical Studies at Western University's Faculty of Arts & Humanities. Holding a PhD from Duke University and degrees from Tufts and the University of Pennsylvania, he specializes in Roman imperial history, Latin epigraphy, and ancient time-keeping systems.

• Roman military organization and provincial studies
• Travel and mobility in the ancient world
• Epigraphic evidence for identity in antiquity
• Calendrical systems and ancient technology
• Roman auxiliary units' ethnographic composition
• Material culture of Roman frontiers

Recent publications examine Vindolanda's calendrical clepsydra, ethnic communities in Roman auxilia, and epigraphic analysis of military settlements. His work combines textual analysis with archaeological evidence to explore Roman imperial dynamics.
