Prof. Alexander M. Puzrin is a Full Professor of Geotechnical Engineering and Head of the Institute for Geotechnical Engineering at ETH Zurich since 2004. His expertise spans geotechnical engineering, applied mathematics, and innovative sensor technologies for monitoring. He holds a Ph.D. from Technion (1997) and has held academic roles at Technion and Georgia Tech before joining ETH.
Education: B.Sc. in Structural Engineering from Moscow Institute of Civil Engineers (1982-1987), M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from Moscow State University (1990). Postdoctoral research at Imperial College, Oxford, and Tokyo University.
Research focuses on soil failure mechanisms, submarine landslides, and bio/chemical soil improvement. He co-founded Marmota Engineering AG, a fiber-optic monitoring firm. Awards include multiple teaching and research medals from ETH, Technion, and the UK Institution of Civil Engineers.
