About
Dr. Alexander Jenkins is a theoretical physicist and Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the Kavli Institute for Cosmology (KICC) and the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP). He holds the Gavin Boyle Fellowship in Cosmology and a UKRI Stephen Hawking Fellowship, and is a Fellow of Selwyn College. His research focuses on gravitational-wave astronomy, cosmology, and quantum matter, with notable contributions to vacuum decay simulations and gravitational-wave detection techniques.
Education: PhD in Theoretical Physics (King's College London, 2017–2021), MA and MSci in Astrophysics (University of Cambridge, 2013–2017).
Research Interests:
- Cosmology and early-universe physics
- Quantum simulations of vacuum decay
- Gravitational-wave astronomy, including detection via binary systems and ultra-light dark matter
- Applications of quantum technologies to fundamental physics
Awards: Recipient of the 2023 Buchalter Cosmology Prize (2nd Prize) for work on gravitational-wave detection.
Key Projects: Member of the Quantum Simulators for Fundamental Physics (QSimFP) Consortium; contributor to the Einstein Telescope project and gravitational-wave data analysis efforts with LIGO-Virgo.
