About
Dr. Alexander Haverkamp is an Assistant Professor at Wageningen University & Research's Laboratory of Entomology. His research program integrates insect neurobiology, chemical ecology, and sustainable agriculture, with particular focus on olfactory systems in Lepidoptera and their ecological interactions.
Research interests span:
- Insect olfaction and sensory processing mechanisms
- Pollinator behavior and plant-insect coevolution
- Viral manipulation of insect neurophysiology
- Sustainable mini-livestock production systems
- Behavioral ecology of caterpillars and butterflies
Recent publications demonstrate multidisciplinary approaches combining neuroethology, virology, and agricultural science, with consistent focus on insect-centered solutions to ecological challenges. Research trends show strong emphasis on sensory biology applications in sustainable agriculture.
Current PhD supervisions include projects on:
- Viral manipulation of insect behavior (2023-2025)
- Neuronal mechanisms in parasitoid-host interactions
- Olfactory co-evolution in caterpillar-wasp systems
Dr. Haverkamp leads the insect neuroethology research group at the Laboratory of Entomology, collaborating with international teams on viral ecology and sustainable food system initiatives.
