Alexander Haarmann

Alexander Haarmann is a postdoc researcher at the Hertie School, currently engaged in the 'Relaunch initiative!' project aiming to redesign Germany’s healthcare system. His work focuses on comparative healthcare systems analysis, patient/public involvement, and health equity. Prior roles include leading the 'Health promotion & disease prevention' work package in the JA-CHRODIS project and contributing to studies on healthcare provision across Europe.

Haarmann holds a doctoral degree from the University of Bremen, where his research compared public and patient involvement in healthcare systems across England, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden. He has collaborated with institutions like NIVEL (Utrecht) and the National Action Plan on Health Literacy (Hertie School/Bielefeld University). His methodological expertise spans both quantitative and qualitative research methods.

Key research interests include international healthcare system comparisons, health literacy, participatory healthcare governance, and policy reforms. His work emphasizes placing patients and the public at the center of healthcare design and decision-making processes.
