Alexander Guz is a Professor and Director of the Timoshenko Institute of Mechanics since 1976, with a career spanning over five decades. He has served as Head of the Department of Dynamics and Stability Continuum Media at the Institute of Mechanics since 1967. His research focuses on mechanics of deformable solids, continuum mechanics, and related interdisciplinary problems, including advanced topics like non-destructive stress determination and nanocomposites.
He has received numerous scientific awards, including the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, V.I. Vernadsky GOLD MEDAL, Blaise Pascal Medal, and multiple State Prizes of USSR and Ukraine. He holds prestigious fellowships and memberships in academies such as the European Academy of Sciences and Academia Europaea.
As an academic leader, Guz has supervised 35 Doctor of Sciences theses and approximately 100 Candidate of Sciences (PhD) theses. His work has profoundly influenced fields like fracture mechanics, rock mechanics, and aerohydroelasticity, with applications in engineering and materials science.
