About
Dr. Alexander Fadeev is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Seton Hall University since 2000, progressing from Assistant Professor (2000) to Associate Professor (2005) and Full Professor (2012). He holds a Ph.D. from Moscow State University (1990) and conducted postdoctoral research at UMass Amherst (1997-2000) and a sabbatical at the University of Pennsylvania (2007-2008).
His research focuses on surface functionalization, adsorption, wetting phenomena, and materials chemistry. Key interests include developing surface-modified materials for catalysis, separation technologies, and biomaterials using organosilicon chemistry. His lab specializes in synthesizing silica-based materials with tailored surface properties, lipid-coated nanoparticles, and lyophobic coatings.
Notable contributions include work on fluorinated phthalocyanines for photocatalytic coatings, hydrophobic surface engineering, and lipid bilayer mimics. Over 85 peer-reviewed publications span Langmuir, Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, and PNAS, with >5000 citations and an h-index of 31.
Awards include NSF grants, industry partnerships (GlaxoSmithKline, Presstek), and mentoring of 11 PhD alumni who received Petersheim Awards. Active in service roles, he chairs search committees and serves on university rank/tenure boards. His lab is equipped with FTIR, contact angle goniometry, and advanced adsorption characterization tools.
