Alexander D. Bolton is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Emory University. He holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University (2015) and a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania (2010). His research focuses on American political institutions, particularly the U.S. executive branch, Congress, and separation of powers. He co-authored Checks in the Balance: Legislative Capacity and the Dynamics of Executive Power (Princeton University Press, 2022), which won the Neustadt and Rosenthal Awards from the APSA.
His current research explores congressional staff diversity, administrative state development, federal workforce unionization, and administrative law-politics intersections. Bolton teaches courses on American political institutions and executive power. He is affiliated with Emory College and maintains an office in Tarbutton Hall, Atlanta.
