About
Dr. Alexander "Sasha" Chemey (he/him/his) is an Assistant Professor in the Nuclear Science and Engineering department at Oregon State University since 2019. He leads the "Alchemey Lab" at the Radiation Center, focusing on nuclear chemistry, physics, and engineering challenges related to power production, radioactive waste storage, and isotope generation. His work utilizes the Oregon State TRIGA Reactor (OSTR) for fundamental nuclear research.
His research interests bridge multiple nuclear science domains, including:
- Actinide target preparation and characterization
- Fast neutron-induced fission studies
- Total kinetic energy release analysis
- Nuclear instrumentation development
- Radioisotope production technologies
- Heavy element synthesis approaches
- Advanced nuclear reactor materials
The 15 most recent publications demonstrate expertise in fission dynamics, detector systems, and actinide chemistry, with emphasis on Pu and U compounds, molten salt reactor elements, and superconductivity in uranium alloys. His work combines experimental nuclear measurements with computational tools like Geant4 simulations.
