About
Alexander Botwinik is a Lecturer in Yiddish at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Arts & Sciences. He is also a music and choir educator at Har Zion Temple, where he coordinates the annual Zimria youth song festival. His work bridges Yiddish language instruction with musical preservation, notably through a 2017 CD release titled "From Holocaust to Life – Yiddish Art Songs," featuring compositions by his father, David Botwinik. The CD was highlighted in a presentation at Penn Jewish Studies in April 2017, performed by acclaimed opera singers Lisa Willson DeNolfo and John Packard. He is currently producing a second CD focused on his father’s children’s songs, collaborating with diverse vocalists.
