Dr. Alexander Beaumont is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Humanities at York St John University, specialising in postwar/contemporary culture and political theory. He holds a PhD from the University of York (2011) and has been at York St John since 2013. His research explores intersections between politics, space, and British cultural production since 1945, with focuses on literary geography and democratic theory.
Education: BA (University of Exeter), MA (University of York), PhD (University of York, 2011). He completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (2015), is a Higher Education Academy Fellow, and external examiner at King's College London.
Research interests include literary geographies of isolation, post-Marxist critical theory, and representations of urban space. Current projects involve an edited volume on 'Literary Geography in Later Covid' (2026) and a study of architects in British fiction.
Publications span monographs (e.g., Contemporary British Fiction and the Cultural Politics of Disenfranchisement), edited collections (e.g., on Sarah Hall), and articles in Contemporary Literature, Journal of Urban Cultural Studies, and others. He co-edits the journal Literary Geographies.
