Alex Woods

Dr. Alex Woods is a Lecturer in Egyptology at Macquarie University's Department of Ancient History within the Faculty of Arts. Their research focuses on ancient Egyptian art, tomb iconography, and Middle Kingdom Egypt, with notable contributions to studies of Beni Hassan necropolis and Old Kingdom marsh scenes. Woods has conducted extensive work on tomb decoration techniques, including analyses of figural proportions and hunting/fowling imagery.

Teaching focuses on integrating hands-on research methods and innovative pedagogy. They have published widely on topics ranging from ancient Egyptian administrative roles to modern mental health predictors. Woods is currently on research leave (Outside Studies Program) and has undertaken fieldwork at the Sackler Library in Oxford.
