About
Dr. Alex Sutton is a Lecturer in Global Change Ecology at the School of Environmental and Natural Sciences, Bangor University. His research focuses on understanding how environmental changes influence individual organisms and their population dynamics, particularly in birds and plants across boreal, temperate, and tropical ecosystems. Key research areas include winter ecology, food caching behavior, microbiome interactions, and climate impacts on plant populations.
He has contributed to projects such as 'Cache 22: The fate of synergistic species interactions in a time of global change' (2024–2026) and 'You are what you do: how behavior shapes the microbiome' (2023). His work integrates behavioral and population ecology to address mechanistic responses to global change.
Publications highlight studies on Canada jays' dietary adaptations, climate-driven carry-over effects in boreal passerines, and ecological principles of winter biology. He actively supervises PhD students and emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to ecological challenges.
