Alex Shorter

Alex Shorter is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan's College of Engineering, where he has served since joining as an Assistant Professor in August 2017. His research bridges mechanical engineering with biological systems, focusing on human and animal movement analysis. His primary research domains include human assist device design, gait analysis, and biomechanical instrumentation, with significant extensions into marine applications. His biosonar research collaborates with marine biologists to translate biological sonar mechanisms into healthcare and automotive technologies.
