Alex Playford

Alex Playford is a Lecturer at the University of Cumbria, affiliated with the Animal Conservation department. She has previously taught for the Wildlife and Media course at Brampton Row.

  • PhD (St Andrews University, 1989-1994)
  • PGCE (Newcastle University, 1998-1999)

Her research focuses on pollinator ecology and conservation, particularly native pollinators in Cumbria, alongside interests in wildlife recording, human attitudes to animals, and avian song development. She co-organized the Big Buzz conference with Cumbria Wildlife Trust.

Her 2022 publication on the Cumbria Bumblebee Atlas highlights regional conservation efforts.

She has lectured at the University of Cumbria for years, with prior postdoctoral roles at St Andrews and Leiden University.
