Alex Masardo is the Academic Subject Leader for Early Years and Education at the University of Gloucestershire, leading the academic strategy within the Early Years & Education (EYE) community in the School of Education and Humanities. He holds a BA in Combined Studies (Law and Social Sciences) from Oxford Brookes University (2002), MRes in European Social Policy (2003), and PhD in Social Policy (2009), both from the University of Bath.
His research focuses on Learning, Pedagogy, and Diversity, Widening Participation in Education, Family as Educator, and Qualitative Research Methods. He has secured funding from the ESRC, AHRC, HEA, and SEDA, and currently serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Family Studies.
Prior roles include academic positions at the Universities of Bath and Birmingham, alongside Visiting/Honorary Fellowships at the Centre for the Analysis of Social Policy and Centre for the Study of Global Ethics. Professional memberships include the Social Policy Association, Socio-Legal Studies Association, and International Sociological Association’s Committee on Family Research.
