Alex Leonas is a Senior Lecturer and Deputy-Head of the Department of General Humanities at the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary, with a career spanning biblical scholarship, early Christian studies, and late antique civilizations. She holds a PhD in Histoire du Christianisme Ancien et civilisations de l'Antiquité tardive from the Université de Paris-Sorbonne (2002) and an MA in Judaism and Christianity in the Graeco-Roman World from University of Oxford (1994).
Her research focuses on Septuagint studies, the language and reception of early Christian literature, and religious history of the Greco-Roman world. She is a member of the La Bible d'Alexandrie research group, contributing to critical editions of Septuagint texts and their historical contexts. Her work bridges ancient translation practices, Philonic studies, and medieval Hungarian hagiography, particularly the cult of Saint Margaret of the Árpád House.
Recent publications include the 2025 book Towards a Chronology of Philo’s Works, analyzing textual chronology debates, and co-edited volumes on Maximus the Confessor (2025) and Saint Margaret of Hungary (2025). She has held guest lectures at ELTE Eötvös Collegium and contributes to academic conferences, including the Budapest Colloquium on Saint Maximus (2021).
