Dr. Alex Krouglov is a Teaching Professor in Russian and Ukrainian at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES), University College London. He joined SSEES in 2017 after serving as an Associate Professor and Associate Dean (Research and Languages) at London Metropolitan University. Previously, he worked at the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office for a decade, holding roles such as Head of Russian and Slavonic Languages and Assistant Director of Diplomatic Language Training.
He holds a PhD (1987–1990) and MA (1973–1978) in Translation, Interpreting, and Sociolinguistics from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. His research focuses on Higher Education, Sociolinguistics, and Language Policy, particularly in Ukrainian and Russian contexts, alongside Translation Studies and curriculum development.
Dr. Krouglov is a multilingual expert (Ukrainian, Russian, Czech, French, Spanish) with extensive advisory work for international organizations like the UN, World Bank, and European Union agencies. He actively engages in consultancy, expert witness roles, and peer reviewing for academic journals and conferences.
