About
Prof. Alex Krasnok is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department at Florida International University (FIU). He holds a Ph.D. from ITMO University (2013) and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Texas at Austin and CUNY Advanced Science Research Center. His research focuses on quantum materials, metamaterials, nanophotonics, and wireless power transfer, with over 170 publications and prestigious awards including the Early-Career Award in Nanophotonics (2021) and the Zhores Alferov Foundation Gold Medal (2016).
Key research areas include extreme scattering engineering, quantum antennas, metasurfaces, and low-loss dielectric nanostructures. His lab operates two branches: Optical Equipment and Microwave/Electronics/Chemistry, with sponsors including NSF and industry partners. Notable achievements include the first observation of localized magnetic plasmon skyrmions and development of phase-change metasurfaces with 80% efficiency.
Awards include the Top 2% Scientist ranking (Stanford/Elsevier) and grants supporting projects like quantum sensors for superconducting qubits. He advises students such as Quesnay Lundy (undergrad) and William Segura Alvarez (graduate), with labs focused on interdisciplinary innovations. Current work explores topological metamaterials, nonreciprocal photonics, and advanced wireless energy transfer systems.
