Alex Jordan

Alex Jordan serves as an Assistant Professor of Biology at Bennett College, actively contributing to the HHMI Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program. He is the primary instructor for the Fall 2025 SEA-PHAGES Microbiology course, guiding undergraduate research in phage discovery and genomics.

His research focuses on microbial evolution and bacteriophage characterization, particularly using Arthrobacter sp. as a model host system. This work integrates genomic analysis with evolutionary principles to explore viral diversity and host-pathogen interactions within natural bacterial populations.

Dr. Jordan leads a course with six students (one freshman, two sophomores, three seniors) meeting four times weekly for eight total hours. As part of the national SEA-PHAGES network, his teaching emphasizes hands-on genomic research methodology and contributes to the collective database of phage genomes through initiatives like PhagesDB and the Genome Exchange.
