Alex Hamilton

Alex Hamilton is a Professor at the School of Physics, University of New South Wales (UNSW), leading the Quantum Electronics and Devices (QED) group. His research focuses on experimental and theoretical investigations of quantum and topological materials for next-generation low-power electronics and quantum computing applications.

• Explores quantum mechanical properties of valence band holes in semiconductor nanostructures
• Investigates topological materials with properties determined by bandstructure topology
• Develops advanced nanofabrication techniques for quantum devices

The group works at extreme conditions (milliKelvin temperatures, strong magnetic fields) to characterize devices like quantum wires and dots. This research aligns with the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Future Low Energy Electronics Technologies (FLEET), aiming to reduce power dissipation through topological protection.
