Alex Gillone, DDS, MS, is the Division Director of Periodontology and Clinical Associate Professor at East Carolina University’s School of Dental Medicine. He specializes in implant dentistry, guided bone regeneration, soft tissue management, and the relationship between systemic diseases and periodontal health. His research explores quorum sensing mechanisms in oral microbiota and bacterial virulence activation.
Dr. Gillone earned his DDS from the University of Cagliari (Italy, 2009), a Master in Clinical Endodontics from the University of Bologna (2011), and an MS in Periodontology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2016). He holds certifications as a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
His research focuses on regenerative endodontic procedures for dental trauma and the role of Diketopiperazines (DKPs) in oral microbiology. Awards include the Billy M.
