About
Alex Averbuch is a Research Fellow in Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Michigan, affiliated with the Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia. His research examines Slavic literatures through lenses of decolonization, gender, and Jewish studies, with focus on Ukrainian and Russian modernisms.
Recent publications explore Jewish solicitory poetry in imperial Russia (2025), Ukrainian Russophone literature's decolonization (2023), and Orientalist femininity in modernism (2022). His work consistently addresses cultural negotiation, identity formation, and textual rediscovery across Slavic contexts. Averbuch's scholarship reveals intricate connections between mysticism, gender politics, and colonial legacies in Eastern European literatures.
