Alessia Para Gallio

Alessia Para Gallio is a Research Professor at Northwestern University. She holds a PhD from the University of Pavia, Italy. Her research focuses on understanding the neural mechanisms underlying temperature sensation and behavior in Drosophila, exploring how thermal stimuli are detected, processed, and integrated to produce adaptive behaviors such as temperature preference and avoidance of extreme temperatures. She uses genetic and molecular approaches in this model organism to dissect complex neural circuits and behaviors.

Her expertise spans Systems Neuroscience, Brain and Behavior, Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience, and Neurogenetics. She investigates how temperature signals are encoded across peripheral and central neural pathways, emphasizing the interplay between sensory inputs and behavioral outputs.
