Alessia Brighi

Alessia Brighi is a Lecturer and Italian Co-ordinator at the Modern Languages Teaching Centre (MLTC) within the School of Languages, Arts and Societies at the University of Sheffield. She has over 25 years of experience in Higher Education and specializes in Italian language instruction, Ethnography, and Intercultural Communication.

Education:

• BA in Archaeology and Prehistory from the University of Sheffield
• MA in Advanced Studies in the Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas from the University of East Anglia

Her research focuses on gender-fair language in Italian, sociolinguistics, and affective learning. She actively contributes to academic scholarship, presenting her work at MLTC conferences and the Network for Teachers of Italian in the UK (NILI-UK). Her leadership roles include Director of One University for the MLTC (2022-25) and developing the MLTC Scholarship Scheme to support staff research.

She coordinates Italian Beginners and Advanced modules, serves as MLTC Scholarship Lead, and engages in cross-faculty collaborations, including roles on the Science Faculty Learning and Teaching Committee and the Board of Extra Faculty Provision.
