About
Dr. Alesia Walker is a Research Fellow and principal investigator at the Research Unit Analytical BioGeoChemistry, Helmholtz Munich, leading project Z focused on metabolomics and gut microbiome interactions. Her work bridges analytical chemistry and systems biology to investigate host-microbe metabolic relationships.
Her research expertise spans critical domains in biomedical analytics:
- Metabolomics of Gut Microbial Metabolites
- Advanced Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS, FT-ICR-MS)
- Bile Acid and Short-Chain Fatty Acid Profiling
- Microbial Community Modelling
- Multi-Omics Data Integration
Project Z, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), drives her collaborative research agenda with key partners:
- Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel
- Research Center Borstel – Leibnitz Lung Center
- Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology
- Universität zu Lübeck
Within Helmholtz Munich, she contributes to the Heinzmann/Kaleta research group's Phase 1 and 2 initiatives, developing computational frameworks to interpret complex metabolomics datasets and elucidate microbial metabolic networks in human health contexts.
