Aleksandra Šmitran

Aleksandra Šmitran is an Associate Professor at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Banja Luka. Her research focuses on microbial pathogenesis, biofilm formation, antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, and nanotechnology-based antimicrobial strategies. She has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and contributed to books on medical microbiology and biofilms.

Research Highlights:

• Investigation of biofilm inhibition by selenium nanoparticles against Acinetobacter baumannii
• Comparative analysis of Staphylococcus aureus biofilm production in human vs. canine isolates
• Molecular epidemiology of Streptococcus pyogenes and Streptococcus pneumoniae resistance patterns
