Alejandro Vallega is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Oregon, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. He serves on the Committee on Diversity & Inclusiveness and holds a Faculty Research Fellowship at the Center for Gender and Africa Studies, University of the Free State, South Africa.
Research Interests: Vallega specializes in Continental Philosophy (Deconstruction, Phenomenology, Hermeneutics), Latin American Thought, Ancient Greek Philosophy (particularly Plato), Aesthetic Philosophy, and World Philosophies. His work bridges philosophy with art, exploring thinkers like Heidegger, Derrida, Gadamer, and Merleau-Ponty. He has contributed to studies on Andean thought, classical Chinese painting, and contemporary artists such as Alfredo Jaar and Anselm Kiefer.
Professional Activities: He served as President of the North American Society for Philosophical Hermeneutics and co-directed the Collegium Phänomenologicum in Italy. His publications include Tiempo y Liberación (2020), Latin American Philosophy: From Identity to Radical Exteri or (2015–2016), and the English translation of Enrique Dussel’s Ethics of Liberation.
Current Projects: Vallega is advancing research on philosophical imaginaries, aesthetic pre-reflexivity, and pluriversal ecological thought, challenging modern binary logic frameworks.
