University of North GeorgiaAbout
Alejandro Sarria is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of North Georgia. His research focuses on nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) from fluid dynamics, particularly stagnation-point form solutions of the Euler and Boussinesq Equations. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and Applied Sciences from the University of New Orleans (2012), preceded by M.S. (2009) and B.S. (2008) degrees in Mathematics from the same institution.
Before joining UNG in 2017, Sarria served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Williams College (2015-2017) and a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Colorado Boulder (2013-2015). His work bridges pure mathematics with applied fluid dynamics, addressing questions about solution regularity, blowup phenomena, and global behavior in evolution equations. Key contributions include studies on damped infinite energy solutions to Euler equations and analysis of stagnation-point solutions in Boussinesq systems.
Outside academia, Sarria is an accomplished ultra-marathon runner and hiker, having completed over 10 ultra-marathons. His pedagogical efforts include co-authoring a case study on redesigning college algebra curricula for improved student outcomes in higher education.
