Alejandro Riano

Alejandro Riano is a Visiting Teaching Fellow in Economics at Queen Mary University of London (since 2023) and a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Economics at City St George’s University of London. He previously worked at the University of Nottingham and the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington DC. His research focuses on how individuals and firms adapt to globalization, with publications in top journals such as the Journal of the European Economic Association and Journal of Development Economics. He also serves as a Research Fellow at CESifo and the Nottingham Centre for Research on Globalisation and Economic Policy (GEP), and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Riano teaches International Trade (ECN228) to Year 2 undergraduate students at Queen Mary, emphasizing theories of trade and the impacts of global integration. As a World Bank consultant, he evaluated export promotion policies in developing nations like the Dominican Republic, Nepal, and Pakistan. His work bridges theoretical economic frameworks with practical policy analysis.
