Alberto URBANI is a Full Professor of Economic Law at the Department of Economics, Ca' Foscari University of Venice, where he also serves as Deputy Director of the Department and Member of the Department Board. His academic career spans over 25 years at the university, progressing from Researcher (1997-2010) to Associate Professor (2010-2017) and Full Professor since 2017. He currently teaches Banking Law and Commercial and Economic Law courses for both undergraduate and graduate programs in Economics and Finance.
Professor URBANI earned his Law degree with highest honors (110/110 cum laude) from the Second University of Rome 'Tor Vergata' in 1990, with a thesis on 'The Italian Banking Industry from the Perspective of the European Single Market.' His professional background includes significant experience at the Bank of Italy (1992-1997) in the Vigilance Office, as well as membership in the Vicenza Bar Association since 1997.
His research focuses on the intersection of banking regulation, commercial law, and European financial frameworks. Recent publications demonstrate his expertise in evolving areas such as cryptocurrency regulation (MiCAR), bank insolvency frameworks, and the consolidation of banking law. His scholarly work consistently addresses the tension between national regulatory frameworks and European integration, particularly regarding the Capital Markets Union action plan and anti-money laundering policies. The articles reveal a pattern of deep engagement with how regulatory fragmentation affects financial stability and market integration.
