Alastair Hall is Professor of Econometrics at the University of Manchester's School of Social Sciences. He holds a BA in Economics (Warwick, 1981), MSc in Economics and Econometrics (Southampton, 1983), and PhD in Economics (Warwick, 1985). Previously at North Carolina State University (Professor since 1992), he joined Manchester in 2007 and holds adjunct positions at American University.
His research specializes in theoretical econometrics, focusing on moment-based estimation methods (GMM, Empirical Likelihood), structural change testing, and time series analysis. Current projects include bootstrap-based structural break tests and econometric modeling of physical activity's health impacts.
Hall has published extensively in top econometrics journals and authored the textbook Generalized Method of Moments (Oxford, 2005). He serves as associate editor for Econometric Reviews and previously co-edited the Journal of Business & Economic Statistics.
