Dr Alana Gall is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Queensland’s School of Public Health and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Southern Cross University’s National Centre for Naturopathic Medicine. A proud Pakana (Tasmanian Aboriginal) woman, her research centers Indigenous health equity, traditional medicines, and holistic wellbeing. Her work emphasizes decolonizing methodologies and Indigenous-led approaches to health measurement and policy.
Education includes a PhD from Menzies School of Health Research/Charles Darwin University (2022), a Master’s in Health Research (2018), and a Bachelor of Health Science in Nutritional Medicine (2015). She leads projects like the What Matters 2 Adults wellbeing measure and collaborates on NHMRC initiatives addressing Indigenous youth mental health and cancer care.
Research interests include: Indigenous wellbeing frameworks, traditional medicine preservation, and culturally responsive health policy. She has pioneered methods like the Think Aloud Yarn and produced educational resources on antimicrobial bush medicines during the pandemic.
Her work bridges global Indigenous health issues, with contributions to Canada, Aotearoa (NZ), and the US. Collaborations focus on empowering Indigenous communities through transdisciplinary approaches to health and education.
