Alan Verde

Alan Verde is a Professor in the Department of Ocean Studies at Maine Maritime Academy's Corning School of Ocean Studies, where he has served since 2004. He concurrently holds the critical role of Diving Safety Officer, overseeing the American Academy of Underwater Sciences-sponsored scientific diving program that enables field research across global marine ecosystems.

His investigations extend to sea cucumber physiology and ecology, anemonefish-anemone mutualism, and temperate octopus biology, integrating laboratory analysis with extensive in situ observations.

Field Operations: Through scientific diving, he documents marine biodiversity worldwide, photographing organisms in natural habitats to advance ecological understanding. As Diving Safety Officer, he ensures rigorous safety protocols for all academy-sponsored underwater research activities, facilitating hands-on student and faculty engagement in marine science.
