Alan Scott is Professor of Sociology at the University of New England (Australia) and Emeritus Professor at Universität Innsbruck. With international appointments in UK, Austria and France, his research bridges political/organizational sociology and social theory.
Teaching areas include Foundations of Modernity: an Introduction to Social Theory (SOCY340), State, Power and Violence (SOCY356/556), and The City and Social Change (SOCY300/500).
Research examines political sociology, neoliberal transformations, organizational theory, and higher education policy. Recent work analyzes populist leadership, state theory, and the sociology of markets.
Publications include Remaking Market Society: A Critique of Political Economy and Social Theory in Neoliberal Times (2018) and The Routledge Handbook of Populism in the Asia Pacific (2023).
