Dr. Alan Pollack is a Professor and Chair Emeritus of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He obtained a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Miami, an MD from the same institution, and completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital and a residency in Radiation Oncology at U.T.-M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
- Professor and Chair Emeritus, University of Miami (2008–present)
- Chair, Radiation Oncology, Fox Chase Cancer Center (2001–2008)
- Professor, Radiation Oncology, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (prior to 2001)
His research focuses on prostate cancer management through radiation therapy (RT), androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), biomarkers (tissue, liquid biopsy, imaging), and tumor microenvironment characterization. He leads the Pollack Lab, which integrates quantitative multiparametric MRI into clinical trials to refine risk stratification, biopsy targeting, and radiotherapy delivery.
Recent publications highlight his work on genomic classifiers (e.g., PAM50, PSC) to predict prostate cancer progression and tumor infiltrating lymphocytes in prostatectomy specimens. He serves as PI on trials like SPPORT (RTOG/NRG 0534) and co-chairs the NCI consortium on imaging and biomarkers.
- Outstanding Mentor of the Year (Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center)
- Clinical Researcher of the Year (University of Miami Miller School of Medicine)
- American Cancer Society Career Development Award
- Radiological Society of North America Fellowship
Dr. Pollack mentors radiation oncology trainees and junior faculty, co-organizes the Design and Management of Clinical Trials Course, and directs the K12 physician scientist program. His lab’s NCI-funded work on quantitative imaging markers complements his leadership in national clinical trials.
