Alan Mcwilliam

Alan Mcwilliam is an Associate Professor in the Division of Cancer Sciences at the University of Manchester, holding the title of Reader. He is also a Principal Clinical Scientist at The Christie Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. His research focuses on radiation oncology, particularly in optimizing radiotherapy techniques to reduce toxicity while improving patient outcomes in lung and prostate cancers.

Mcwilliam holds a Doctor of Science from the University of Manchester (2006), a Master of Science in Medical Physics (2008), and a Master in Science in Physics and Photonics (2005) from the University of St Andrews.

His research interests include dose surface mapping, radiomics, and the application of artificial intelligence in radiation therapy. Key projects include the RAPID-RT initiative to improve lung cancer survival and developing predictive models for prostate cancer recurrence. He contributes to the Manchester Cancer Research Centre and Christabel Pankhurst Institute.
