About
Alan Mark is Professor in the School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences at the University of Queensland and affiliate of the Institute for Molecular Bioscience. He holds a BSc (Hons) from University of Sydney and PhD from Australian National University. His career includes professorships at University of Groningen and ETH Zurich before joining UQ in 2005.
Research expertise includes:
- Molecular dynamics simulations of biomolecules
- Protein folding mechanisms
- Membrane protein assembly
- Computational drug design
- Force field development
His group develops simulation methodologies applied to diverse biological systems including antimicrobial peptides, cell surface receptors, and amyloid formation. Recent publications focus on force field validation, amyloid dynamics, and organic light-emitting diode morphologies.
Honors include the Ruzicka Prize (1998), ARC Federation Fellowship (2004), and AMMA Medal (2012).
