Alan Lesser

Alan Lesser is Professor in the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, affiliated with the College of Engineering.

His research develops sustainable polymer processing methods using supercritical CO₂ and superheated water, focusing on novel composites, foams, and failure prevention. Current initiatives include self-reinforced composites and additive manufacturing resins for improved mechanical isotropy.

Leadership: Editor-in-Chief of Polymer Engineering & Science and Polymer Composites journals. Chaired Gordon Research Conferences on Composites and multiple SPE technical divisions.

Industry collaborations include Arkema, Boeing, and Medtronic. Research addresses practical challenges in material durability and processing efficiency through fundamental studies of deformation mechanisms and environmental stress cracking.
