Alan K.L. Chan

Professor Alan K.L. Chan serves as Provost and Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple Chair Professor of Inter-Religious Studies and Harmony at Singapore Management University (SMU), with a courtesy appointment in the School of Social Sciences.

His educational background includes a PhD in Religious Studies from the University of Toronto, an MA from the University of Manitoba, and a BA from the University of Winnipeg.

Professor Chan's research focuses on Chinese philosophy and religion, with particular expertise in hermeneutics. His academic work bridges religious studies and philosophical traditions, emphasizing inter-religious understanding and dialogue.

Among his professional recognitions, Professor Chan received the Teaching Excellence Award twice during his tenure at the National University of Singapore.
