Alan Fox

Alan Fox is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) within the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). His research focuses on AMOC dynamics, subpolar gyre variability, and climate change impacts on North Atlantic ecosystems. He employs ocean modeling and Lagrangian particle tracking to study circulation pathways and deep-sea connectivity. Current projects include EU-funded initiatives like ATLAS (analyzing ecosystem fluxes and connectivity) and Blue-Action (Arctic heat/freshwater transfer mechanisms).

He holds a PhD in Physical Oceanography (Bangor University, 1992) and completed a Daphne Jackson Fellowship (2014-2016) on cold-water coral connectivity. His work contributes to UN SDGs related to marine conservation and climate action. Recent publications (2022-2025) address topics such as Ekman pumping impacts, North Atlantic cooling, and larval dispersal modeling. He collaborates widely on projects involving observational networks and conservation strategies.
