Alan Dorin is a Professor in the Department of Data Science & AI within the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University. His research explores ecological modeling, artificial life, and biologically-inspired electronic art. He teaches units including Research and Innovation in Computer Science and Creative Computing.
His research bridges computing with biology and ecology through:
- Insect-plant interaction simulations for sustainable agriculture
- Generative art systems inspired by biological processes
- Historical analysis of technology-human relationships
Recent publications focus on pollinator behavior analysis, ecological simulation, and applications of computer vision in biodiversity conservation. He leads projects on precision pollination and national pollination strategy development funded by ARC and National Geographic.
Dorin serves on multiple faculty committees and is Editor-in-Chief of the Artificial Life journal.
