Alan Donnelly is a Professor at the University of Limerick's Physical Activity for Health Research Centre and Director of the Health Research Institute. His research focuses on objective measurement of sedentary behavior and physical activity, and their relationship with health outcomes in adolescents and adults.
Professor Donnelly investigates the physiological consequences of physical behaviors using advanced measurement techniques and intervention studies. His work includes developing methodologies for physical activity monitoring and examining muscle physiology in exercise contexts.
He leads several collaborative projects including the WEALTH study on physical and eating behaviors, and the Move for Life intervention program for older adults. His research has been funded by the Health Research Board and other national/international agencies.
