About
Dr. Alalea Kia is an Advanced Research Fellow in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London, affiliated with the Grantham Institute and the Resilient Sustainable Infrastructure Group. Her research focuses on cleantech, climate change mitigation, and sustainable construction materials, particularly permeable pavements and low-carbon cementitious materials. She leads a research group addressing urban flood adaptation, additive manufacturing, and infrastructure resilience.
Dr. Kia has received notable awards including the RAEng Young Engineer of the Year (2024), Sir George MacFarlane Medal, and Imperial College President’s Medal for Excellence in Research (2023). She actively recruits students and researchers for funded positions in her group, supporting fellowship applications in engineering and sustainability.
Her publications emphasize material durability, climate resilience, and energy-efficient infrastructure. Key contributions include optimizing permeable pavements for freeze-thaw resistance, enhancing CO₂ adsorption in novel materials, and developing solar collector pavements for energy harvesting. Her work bridges civil engineering with interdisciplinary environmental and materials science challenges.
