Al Ross is Professor of Human Factors at Staffordshire University and Course Lead for the MSc in Human Factors for Patient Safety. His research applies systems thinking to healthcare safety, focusing on organizational resilience, quality improvement, and simulation-based training. He pioneered the CIRAS railway safety system and now leads projects on ergonomic ward design, oral health equity, and maternity care co-design.
He collaborates internationally on resilience engineering frameworks (FRAM) and consensus guidelines for fluoride programs in early education. His work integrates Human Factors principles into healthcare simulation and investigates barriers to healthcare access.
