Akshay Mangla is an Associate Professor of International Business at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and a Research Fellow at Green Templeton College. He holds affiliations with the Department of Politics and International Relations and the South Asian Studies Program. His research focuses on the political economy of development, institutional reforms, and state capacity in South Asia, particularly India. He earned a Ph.D. in Political Science from MIT, an M.Sc. from Oxford, and degrees from the University of Pennsylvania.
His book Making Bureaucracy Work explores how public agencies deliver services in rural India and has won multiple awards. Current research includes institutional reforms for state capacity in India, spanning education, child welfare, and policing. He leads the UK FCDO-funded What Works Hub for Global Education and is an Associate Editor of Indian Politics and Policy.
Prior roles include Assistant Professor at Harvard Business School and Research Affiliate at Harvard's Mittal South Asia Institute. His work bridges academia and policy, addressing complex societal challenges through collaborative governance.
