About
Prof. Akke Suiker is a Full Professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), leading the Applied Mechanics group within the Department of the Built Environment. His research focuses on multi-scale and multi-physics modeling of materials and structures, addressing deformation, failure, and interactions with thermal, chemical, and fluid processes. Applications span 3D printing, historical artifacts preservation, wind energy, and geotechnical systems. He holds a PhD from Delft University of Technology and has held academic roles there and at TU/e since 2012. Notable awards include the 'Best Lecturer' title at Delft and teaching excellence awards at TU/e. His work bridges fundamental mechanics with practical engineering solutions, validated through experimental and computational methods.
Education: MSc (Civil Engineering, Delft, 1995), PhD (Applied Mechanics, Delft, 2002). Postdoctoral research at University of Massachusetts and Cambridge University.
Research Interests: Micromechanical modeling, multi-scale analysis, failure mechanisms in materials, and interdisciplinary applications in historical preservation and renewable energy.
Key Contributions: Development of computational frameworks for granular materials and chemo-mechanical degradation models for cultural heritage. Over 80 peer-reviewed publications and patents derived from his research.
Awards: 4 teaching and supervision awards at TU/e, alongside his Delft recognition.
