Dr. Akash Bachhuka is a Ramón y Cajal Research Fellow at the Catalan Institute of Chemical Research (ICIQ) in Tarragona, Spain. His research focuses on nanoengineered surfaces for applications in medical implants, biosensors, and chemical sensors. He holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of South Australia (2016).
He has been awarded prestigious fellowships, including the Juan de la Cierva Incorporación (2020) and Beatriu de Pinos (2022), and ranked among top researchers in Spain. His current position is funded by the Ramón y Cajal Fellowship (Reference: RYC2022-035783-I) under the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (Spain).
He previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Adelaide’s ARC Centre of Excellence for Nanoscale BioPhotonics (CNBP), developing microstructured optical fiber-based sensors. To date, he has published over 40 research papers and book chapters, advancing interdisciplinary research at the interface of materials science and biomedical engineering.
