Ajay Manthripragada

Ajay Manthripragada is an Assistant Professor of Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley, joining the faculty in Fall 2024. He previously taught at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design and Rice University School of Architecture as a Wortham Fellow.

His research and teaching focus on the shifting juridical landscape of California housing and the study of extracanonical references in the design process. His practice is renowned for creating conceptually and experientially rich architectural works, with current projects spanning India and California, including a 180-bed junior college dormitory in Mangaluru and an artist’s studio south of San Francisco.

His publications have appeared in prominent journals such as Log, Domus, and Cite, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to architecture. Scientific recognition includes a 2018 nomination for the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize and winning the Lily Auchincloss Rome Prize in Architecture, which funded his fellowship at the American Academy in Rome.
