Aishwarya Kumar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Stony Brook University. He joined in 2024 after postdoctoral work at Stanford University, where he coupled ultracold Rydberg atoms to superconducting resonators. His Ph.D. research at Penn State focused on 3D arrays of single atoms for quantum computation.
His research uses ultracold atoms and photon interactions to address quantum information and metrology challenges. The Kumar Lab develops experimental and theoretical tools in quantum optics and cavity QED to explore quantum many-body physics and next-generation quantum devices. Current projects include coupling atom arrays to microwave resonators for Hamiltonian simulation, implementing non-local quantum gates, and designing optical cavities for alkaline-earth atoms.
